Louis II de Mâle (1346-1384), gold Gouden Schild, Gent or Mechelen, m.m. cross pattée/cross pattée, edge milled vertically. Obv. Count enthroned facing, holding sword in right hand and resting left hand on shield of arms, all within tressure of seven arches, trefoils in spandrels. Rev. Quadrilobe containing Cross tréflée and feuillue, trefoil fleurée at end of each arch, trilobe in spandrels. 4.50g, die axis 10h (Martiny, Gent, 48; Elsen 38; Delmonte 466; Gaillard 218). A very attractive coin, round and lustrous. A bold extremely fine.
